Max & Molly H-Harness – An Honest Review

December 27, 2022
December 27, 2022

The Max & Molly H-Harness must be the most full range of colours and designs I’ve ever seen on a harness.

But is the Max & Molly H-harness more than just a pretty harness? Does it work for bigger dogs? Stronger Dogs? Dogs who pull? Dogs who react?

The Max & Molly harness is available on amazon prime and through their website and delivers worldwide, it’s reasonably priced and it’s a y-shaped harness which means that it gives your dog a great range of motion. It comes in a huge range of colours, but is fundamentally the same throughout each design.

My mission when I started this review was to really give this harness a tough time, because I knew it was a fashion harness (if you know what I mean?) and often times those harnesses aren’t practical harnesses., and I’m actually mega impressed with the results. It’s not often that a dog harness surprises me. But this one did.

So let’s look at why.

Introducing the Max & Molly H-Harness

What I Love About the Max & Molly Harness

Soft

Lucy has quite sensitive skin, so whenever I get a more “spartan” style harness I like to try it on her to see if it starts to rub – because in a lot of instances after 30-60 mins I start seeing redness – but that’s not the case with the Max & Molly harness – which must be a result of the neoprene lining. A wonderfully considered choice! You can really tell this was made by Dog people!

Quality Materials

I cannot believe that a harness at this price point comes with steel fittings. They do vary in price on amazon, but they’re approx $15-35 encompasses them – which is unheard of. I don’t know a single other harness at this price point using steel. Let alone to pick up sturdy nylon webbing and neoprene lining.

Colourful

Do you know how frustrating it is as a big dog parent… to find a cute as heck harness and then find out that the “XL” fits a border collie? Whamp-wha. Time after time. THe cute harnesses are restricted to small dogs – but Max & Molly are now my go to for fun, colourful, and seasonal harnesses. We were sent some wonderful summery and bright harnesses that are super attractive.

They’ve got so many designs that I just couldn’t choose, and I was lucky enough that they sent me 4! I was very impressed with the vibrancy of the colours too, and just how well they wash up.

Chest Adjustment (Hallelujah!)

Again, maybe this is a big dog problem, but where I have three dogs who are deep chested, I often have an issue that my dogs will fall between sizes, or that when I get one that fits, the chest is too small and it cuts in under their arms – but when they’re adjustability in the chest? It means that even my awkward dogs can actually get a great fit.

And dare I say it, at this price point? It’s something I’ve never seen.

What I Don’t Love About The Max & Molly Harness

The Neck Attachment Point

I don’t get it. Haha. I’ve even spoke to the CEO, and I’m not sure I get why the neck point is there… because … to me, this turns the safe, and secure harness, into a collar.

Apparently, the Max & Molly audience (who love their products!) missed it when it was removed because of the “Lack of control”, so it came back by popular demand – but personally (and professionally) I don’t get it. But I am hugely passionate that harnesses and leashes etc are not tools of communication – that they’re tools of management!

I’d rather see it as a chest attachment point, but hey! They gave their customer what they wanted and I can’t fault them for that.

It’s Not Reflective

I’m super fussy about this. But the average dog needs reflective-ness in their harness. Because Harnesses are for being out of the home, right? Whether you’re walking in twilight and you need other people to see them, whether you need hunters to see them, or you’re walking alongside a road, or even have cyclists as a risk, this one is really not that negotiable for most dog parents.

You can absolutely add a bright coloured reflective blanket, or a light, or light up collar! They’d all work to adjust it to work in all scenarios – it’s just a shame it’s not a feature it offers.

Would I Recommend the Max & Molly H-Harness?

Absolutely.

This rather surprised me because I (bluntly) seen another harness made in China, and my previous experiences with these is that they do tend to be lower quality than ones made elsewhere. But perhaps it’s the german design, or perhaps it’s the more considerate approach – whatever it is, this harness works, and it’s one I would trust a larger dog to wear securely.

Yeah, it kind of surprised me, but it was a good thing.

If this harness is the one for you, you can find it on amazon, or on the Max & Molly website!
