Tactipup Extreme Dog Collar 1.5″ – An Honest Review

When you’ve got a big dog, or a reactive dog, or an aggressive dog security can be totally paramount. This was one of the reasons I want to try out the Tactipup Extreme Dog collar.

When Indie showed his reactivity at first, the experience was scary, and security of gear became an issue I really wanted to investigate. Something I came across at the time was this, the Tactipup Extreme Collar – this was really unreachable for me when I was in the UK because of the combination of initial cost & delivery on top of that.

I was lucky enough to move to the US, and it meant that I was keen to investigate!

Tactipup were super popular on Instagram and there were pictures of dogs, just like mine, wearing these collars. So there was a little ratification that these might work for big dogs like my trio.

I also wanted to test the one with the handle, because this is something that’s becoming very trendy, but I only ever see snag risks. This presented me the opportunity to do that, and see whether it would make a difference for a dog parent, and if it had any use outside of the Bitework circuit.

In Detail

This collar is sincerely not cheap, but it is strong. It’s very no frills, just a simple, but over built piece of kit. The cobra clip is something I love. The strength in this clip? Is phenomenal. It’s something that I am totally smitten with. Then, it is customisable, it’s got cute little patches, comes in 11 colours and 12 embroidery colours, meaning your dogs collar can be as unique as you want.

The big negative, in my opinion, is the fact they charge delivery.

What Do I Love About The Tactipup Extreme?

Cobra Clip

I love, love love love the cobra clip. It’s just one of the most stupidly overpowered clips that you can elect to use with a dog collar. This clip isn’t going to give up. So if you’ve got a big dog, or even you just like the stylings? This is a serious collar for serious dogs.

And! Even better because of this wonderful cobra clip? You don’t need to worry about what happens if a choke risk occurs, because you can pinch the sides of these clips and presto – they’re released. but there’s also little to no risk of your dog managing this on their own.

Double Webbing

There’s some strength in this! Nylon webbing is commonly used in dog products because of it’s strength and durability, and this is a great application of it, the collar is stitched 4 times across the layers, and it’s beautifully finished – and I’ve not had a single thread come loose.

Customisable

From the selection of colours (not often offered in this style of collar), to the embroidery and the little flag patches, you can make this collar truly your own. But the best thing about the embroidery? You can put enough information on this collar in order to ditch a tag – which if you have dogs who get messy or run through brush, that’s a real bonus for you.

Works With Honey

Have you heard of Honey? It gives you a little sugar back on your purchases! And it works with Tactipup!

For me? This was the best thing that could happen, because it counteracted the delivery charge with a smidge extra. It also saved me searching Instagram for discount codes. It snagged me 20% off before Christmas, best (at time of posting) is 10% I can see right now.

What I Don’t Love About The Tactipup Extreme

Handle

I don’t get it. I have a problem with handles representing a snag risk for dogs generally, and it proved itself a snag risk when Indie went through our back door. The handle caught on one of the hinges. And, Indie being a slightly cautious dog by nature, it then took a little work to get Indie relaxed around the back door (Yeah, it’s dumb, but luckily his mum’s an award winning dog trainer, huh?)

Delivery speed

Because it’s made to order it can take 4-6 weeks for these collars to be made. Whilst on one side that means the company is lowering it’s overheads by not needing a storage facility – it’s a lot to ask of people (in my humble opinion) to pay three times the cost of the average collar, and then make them wait that long.

Maybe I’m missing something? But it bugged me.

They Charge shipping

This is like, my biggest problem with everything on the internet. I don’t want to be charged shipping. Especially not on a dog collar that costs $72.95. I know it’s only $6.50 for it to be delivered? But gosh, I kinda of wish they dropped the fancy branded boxes and stuffing, charged me $75 and cut the shipping cost off entirely.

Shipping on premium products, just makes me angry, I’m sorry…

Collects floof & dirt

I will quickly caveat this by saying for a good chunk of testing, Indie has been blowing his coat, so he is shedding more than normal. But, the black lining of the collar seems to collect the fur more than

Because of the personalisation, it does take a little longer to ship them out. They’re done to order so it means that there shouldn’t be getting storage costs (which means we shouldn’t get them either!). Also because the inside is black it does pick up dust and grot?

But, I will say, it’s not faded a single note since I bought it, so I’m pretty pleased with that!

Do I Recommend It

I love the collar, I don’t like the handle. So if you’re interested in it? It’s definitely better, safer and cheaper without the handle in my opinion! Also, make sure to sign up to Honey to get that discount, because all those pennies help, right?
